Northern Echo 1 July 2006 Letters THIMBLEBERRY FESTIVAL in response to your article about the Thimbleberry Music Festival (echo, June 26), which went ahead despite not having the necessary premises licence, i wish to point out that this was the most peaceful festival i have been to. It tires and annoys me when people want it banned. why i wonder?
the venue-organiser Andy Normans Thimbleby Hill Farm is an isolated spot above Stanhope, so it amazes me that people would object. in fear of what ? noise ? people who may actually spend money in Stanhope ? these kind of festivals should be encouraged. it was aimed not just at young people, but with everybody in mind. there were families with children and entertainment for them. it had an a la carte restaurant which served great food. all the live bands were absolutely superb. this is what it is all about-keeping music live. there was not one disturbance, yet the police visited several times to check and even spent money to put up a helicopter with search lights to try to find what ?
it was a magical experience to have the freedom to sleep on top of a mountain and to meet new people who share the same love for music. respect Andy, you did it.
